The purpose of youth work at Bath abbey is:

"To reach out to the young people of Bath, to respond to their needs, and to bring them to faith in Christ, thereby enriching them and the spiritual life of the Abbey and the City".

At the Abbey we believe the young people should very much be in the driving seat when it comes to the topics we cover each week. We can be contacted by email (see below) with thoughts, suggestions and even questions concerning the work at the Abbey.

Currently, we have several groups for young people during the 9:15 service on Sunday mornings

Drop-in

What? Drop-in is a chill-out zone on Friday afternoons, especially suitable for those who need somewhere to go between school and their choir practice.

When? Every Friday from 4:30 until 6:30.

Where? 9 Kingston Buildings (opposite the Abbey).

Who can come? Everyone aged 11-18 from the Abbey

  • Music (you can bring your own CDs)
  • X-Box
  • Snacks

Contact: youth@bathabbey.org if you need more information.

Ages 12-18

The Abbey now has four part-time youth workers, who are working to develop a youth ministry to meet the needs of every young person in the Abbey, in ways which are useful, relevant and fun! Through discussion, study, prayer, and workshops, we hope to support and encourage all the young people at the Abbey, whatever they believe. We plan to tackle issues such as:

  • Why should we believe anything the Bible or Christians say?
  • How can we address issues such as war, famine, global warming and poverty in the world today?
  • Science vs. Religion
  • How to survive as a Christian at school
  • How to read the Bible and pray effectively

We are also planning to invite Christians from all walks of life to come and speak about how they came to believe and how their faith survives today. Future plans include social outings and a possible trip to Spring Harvest or Soul Survivor.

Ages 3-11

Groups meet every Sunday morning during the 9:15 Service for children aged 3 to 11years. The groups are run by a team of trained and experienced volunteers.

We base our programme on the scripture Union 'Light' material. The sessions are grouped into themes about God, lasting between two and five weeks, though each session has its own stand alone message. Each theme is bible focused and there is a balance between Old and New Testament. The teaching and activities are tailored to suit the age and dynamics of the groups.

Our aims are

  • To enable children, to develop a personal relationship with Christ.
  • To help them to understand the Bible and the Christian faith.
  • To show them how to live their lives for God.

There are three groups

  • Trailblazers for ages 8 to 11(School years 4 to 6)
  • All Stars for ages 5 to 8 (School years 1 to 3)
  • Sparklers for ages 3 to 5

Under 3s

There is a crèche for babies and toddlers every week. Parents are welcome to stay with their children in the crèche where they are able to listen to the service through a PA system or to leave their children with the team of experienced volunteers.

Notices

This page will be updated with more detailed information as to what is going on soon. In the mean time, please pray for all the young people at the Abbey, and all those involved in working with them.
