ABBEY FRIENDS

Friends of Bath Abbey

President: The Rector

Chairman: District Judge Mark Rutherford

Hon. Secretary: Mrs Ros Key-Pugh

Charity Registered No: 205082

The Friends of Bath Abbey exist to provide a permanent link with those visitors to the Abbey who would like to stay in touch with the life of the Abbey but who may not use the Abbey as their regular place of worship.

We hold a number of social events throughout the year and an informative annual report is published each year. We hope that through these events we can keep alive the link with friends both nationwide and worldwide and remind them about the life of the Abbey.

Legacies and Gifts

The Friends of Bath Abbey have benefited in the past from a number of very generous donations from former Friends and existing Friends. The Friends feel it is very important to raise money that can be for the lasting benefit of the Abbey.

Our most recent project was the cleaning of the East Front of the Abbey. Other recent projects have been the completion of the St Alphege Chapel and the Gethsemane Chapel with beautiful altar frontals designed by Jane Lemon and also the refurbishment of the Sanctuary with a Trinity Altar frontal designed by Jane Lemon. All the items in the Chapels and Sanctuary were donated by Friends and each article has an individually engraved brass plaque dedicating the article to the donor or in memory of the donor's relatives or friends. We also paid for the cleaning of the West Front of the Abbey, which has made such a dramatic change to the centre of Bath and are currently supporting a project to provide acoustic screens behind the Choir Stalls.

If you would like to help us restore and keep up the fabric of the Abbey in this way we would be very grateful to receive any donation you may wish to make. Merely joining as a member of the Friends of Bath Abbey is a valuable way to contribute to the enhancement of this beautiful building.
